Tech-chic: best dressed stars at the Met Gala

On Monday night, stars and designers gathered at the grande staircase of the Metropolitan Museum of Art—and literally lit up the red carpet. Wild trains and Lady Gaga shoes aside, here are the most elegant gowns that made the climb.

Allison Williams, the star of HBO’s Girls, gracefully climbed the stairs wearing a Peter Pilotto cut out gown that fell like a waterfall around her feet. She paired the look with an Edie Parker clutch, and Brian Atwood shoes.

Emily Blunt

Emily Blunt was all sparkle in a form-fitting blue lace Michael Kors Collection gown adorned with sequins. Her jewels were from Forevermark (including an 18-karat diamond ear cuff). But perhaps her best accessories of the evening were her pregnant belly, and friend Olivia Wilde, who showed up as Emily Blunt’s “date” so they could show off their baby bumps together.

Naomi Watts

Ever the column-dress type of gal, actress Naomi Watts added a little metallic flare to her signature silhouette in a Burberry gown made of chain-mail sequins. The modern bodice was then adorned with elegant glass beads and floral decals.

Karolina Kurkova

Model Karolina Kurkova dazzled fashion moguls and tech impresarios alike in a floral Marchesa dress, designed in partnership with IBM, that turned different colors as it responded to live tweets surrounding the events. As it analyzed information from Twitter, the general emotions of any Met Gala tweets controlled what colors the dress would turn (such as pink for happiness).

Brie Larson

Oscar winner Brie Larson glittered in Proenza ruffles that had a silver metallic mirrored finish. The closed-toed black heels, dark lipstick and cut-outs on the dress all helped give her otherwise classic look a modern, edgier feel.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley appeared looking angelic with fiancé Jason Statham in a Ralph Lauren one-shoulder dress with a flowing train. The hint of metallic at her shoulder was a nod to the gala’s tech theme. Later that evening, the star switched into a shorter white dress at The Standard High Line hotel’s rooftop bar.

Jessica Chastain

A crown jewel of the gala, actress Jessica Chastain smiled brightly in a sapphire Prada silk gabardine gown with delicate black beading in lattice and floral motifs. The Huntsman: Winter’s War star paired the dress with Piaget drop earrings.
